Weapon disciplines: Sword and Shield, Quarterstaff, Rapier and Dagger.

Description: A combatant on intermediate test one level is able to perform a choreography in a mature, consistent and artistically fulfilling manner in performance speed, giving a very clear and solid presentation to both audience and adjudicators. To take intermediate test one, you need a passed basic test, and a minimum of 130 hours of training (or the equivalent of two summer workshops – one preparatory and one test course) in the relevant weapons, minimum 15 hours of training per test weapon.

Requirements: The combatant demonstrates a surplus of understanding of and control over technique, choreography, timing and the use of space; demonstrates very good partner contact; demonstrates maturity in learning, training and performing; demonstrates an understanding of the appropriate styles for the different weapons; demonstrates consideration and generosity towards both partner and audience; can explain valid terminology for all basic test and intermediate test one weapons.

Examination: Examination is done through choreographed performance, one for each weapon. At least two of the choreographies must be presented as realistic scenes; one can be a comic scene. Each of the choreographies must have a minimum of 60 moves. Examination choreographies must be taught by a certified teacher, and adjudicated by a minimum of two certified teachers. At intermediate test one level, students can be questioned about valid terminology and techniques for basic test weapons as well as intermediate test one weapons.
